ALVERNIA STUDIOS took part in the production of the film “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” (“Run Milkha Run”), directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra – one of the most awaited Bollywood productions of the year. So far more than 13 million people have watched this film. ALVERNIA STUDIOS, with its Mumbai office opened at the beginning of this year, was involved in the production of the film and was responsible for the color grading and sound edition.

The film was released on July 12th 2013. It earned 1 billion Indian rupees ($17 million) only four weeks after the premiere. It is the second best result for an Indian production this year. “Bhag Milkha Bhag” quickly joined Bollywood’s 100-Crore Club(films that earned over 1 billion rupees at the Indian box office).

An important aspect of this production was the stage of color grading. Giving the movie the right spectrum of color was incredibly important to convey the right atmosphere and expression of the whole story. Different areas and stages of Milkha Singh’s life interlace in the story and each of them had to be treated differently. The producers have been searching for a colorist who could capture the right atmosphere of the film for a long time. The colorist Glen Castinho, Head of the Digital Intermediate Department in ALVERNIA STUDIOS, was invited to cooperate.

“We wanted a colorist who would be able to enrich the vibrant hues of Pradhan’s cinematography, one who would understand our vision for film and who could treat all segments of the film with sensitivity and accuracy. Glen’s Creative and Technical abilities towards the image processing has  impressed us and the finished product is testament to his skills. He’s done agoodjob.” – said the director of the film, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

In “Bhag Milkha Bhag” ALVERNIA STUDIOS was also responsible for the design and mix of foley and sound design. Sebastian Włodarczyk (Sound Engineer in ALVERNIA STUDIOS) and Michał Fojcik (Sound Designer in ALVERNIA STUDIOS) worked on the sound recording of 40 minutes of the material (scenes of the Olympic Games, scenes with visual effects and the flashbacks).

“Bhag Milkha Bhag” is a biographical film about one of the greatest Indian athletes, Milkha Singh. The role of India’s representative in the Olympic Games and World Championships was played by Bollywood star, Farhan Akhtar. Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra, one of the most established and respected Indian directors, has worked on finishing this production, telling the story of a man known as “The Flying Sikh”, for two years. The movie, based on the life of the athlete, is a story of the victory of the human spirit over the life’s adversities.
